"Treatment of elderly patient in A&E"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as a relative),

My mother, aged 97, was taken to your A&E Dept this morning, by ambulance after a fall at home. As I live hundreds of miles away she was on her own. A nurse called me and updated me after her initial assessment and also to let me know when she was being sent home. I'm happy that her medical needs were met in full.

However when I spoke to her on her return after about 5 hours in hospital she was still shaken and with no appetite. She said she was not even offered a drink whilst she was in your care.

I find this unacceptable and am looking for some assurance that this will not happen again when you have an elderly frail person in your care.

Dear Concerned dea

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to email Patient Opinion website. Since speaking to me last weeks, I have forward it to the Head Nurse for Good Hope Hospital. I have been informed that our Lead Nurse for Emergency Department (ED) will call you today to discuss your mother's experience.

Kind regards

Iona
