About: North Manchester General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

i was on ward f6 surgical as a patient for 4 days

the ward staff (qualified and domestic) stood out as being both efficient and caring. The ward was very busy with some demanding patients and some very ill patients. We all got our drugs and checks regularly and on time. Everywhere was clean and tidy within reason. All staff regularly washed their hands between patients. Everyone was treated with dignity and understanding. No-one was ignored, even if very demanding. The nurses did what they are trained to do and they did it fantastically well...well done. This ward has a great atmosphere.

The surgical care was very good, the medics explained everything well.

What could be improved

A+E waiting area did not look clean -but it was very early in the morning. Medic was very pleasant.

The medical assessment wards were immaculate but i felt like people were left for too long - not knowing what was happening to them.

The staff on these wards were illusive, for instance it took them 3 hours to put up a drip after a medical request and pain relief was often not given, missed, inadequate. Overall these wards seemed to be disorganised.
