"Ward 2"

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

very disappointing experience, my husband went for a day case op. The communication from the staff to my husband and myself was nothing short of poor. After 4 telephone calls that I was requested to make to the ward I was eventually told that my husband was ready to be collected and had been discharged, when I arrived I found him on his own being violently sick on to the floor ( he had apparently requested help 10 mins previously) but the nurse only bought him a sick bowl once I had arrived, he had not been discharged and was obviously far to poorly to come home. The ward was in disarray, my husband had no water by his bed ( as an ex nurse I find this unbelievable especially as they wanted him to pee asap so they could discharge him) his wounds were bleeding and needed changing and his ted stockings were covered in vomit (and although they told him they would get him some more, none came in the time I was there. The nurse kept put pressure on him to pee so he went to the lav and she knocked very loudly and shouted to him through the door for the rest of the ward to hear, he then came out and was violently sick in the toilet where the door was held open for all to see. I am totally unimpressed with the care that my poor husband has received and the lack of dignity offered to him. I know that morale is low in the nhs but basic needs like water by the bed and the dignity of the patient in my mind should be automatic,, and nursing should still be about patient care and trying to make a difficult situation a positive experience, I should be writing that although he had an op the staff treated him with kindness and dignity, how sad I am to be reporting the opposite.
