"The Children's ward"

About: Pilgrim Hospital

My son was admitted with a broken collar bone and after xrays etc , was taken to the children's ward. The staff there were excellent, nothing was too much trouble for them whether it was for me or my son. I was allowed to stay with him the whole time and never once made to feel I was in the way or making too much fuss over him. All the staff made an effort to get to know him and spend some time talking to him. He was made to feel as comfortable as possible. There was a delay in getting him to theatre which was disappointing but that was not the fault of the nursing staff on the ward. Although we were both pleased to be home it certainly didn't put him off being in hospital. Many thanks to the staff on this ward for looking after my son.

Dear Loraine

Thank you for taking the time to comment about your experiences on the children’s ward. I am delighted to hear that your experiences of the ward were positive. Your comments about the nursing staff were very kind and are exactly the kind of experiences that we strive to provide to all of our children and families. I am sorry to understand that there were delays in getting your son to theatres. We work closely with our theatre and surgical colleagues to ensure delays are kept to a minimum, but this is not always possible and I apologise we fell short on this occasion.

Your comments have been forwarded to the Ward Sister and to all of the staff on the ward along with my grateful thanks for ensuring that the experience of children and families is as positive as possible on Ward 4A.
