"It’s good to have someone extra to talk to"

About: Lynfield Mount Hospital / Adult mental health service

(as the patient),

Me and Kehinde made a quorn vegetable chilli and staff actually enjoyed it. The cooking groups were helpful. The rec hall has a sufficient amount of equipment and it is fun to partake in the activities. Badminton, pool and snooker. I have had a game of snooker with the Imam. But not father crowe, he doesn’t play anything. He just says hello and sometimes forgets my name.

The staff here on maplebeck ward are attentive but it is hard to get there attention because there is “more than one patient”…it is a very busy hospital. The trivial pursuit game on the ward is good and it’s good when people donate games to the ward. I taught the staff the ply chess. The volunteer Mary is the only one who plays with me at the coffee morning sometimes. It’s good to have someone extra to talk to – new faces as well as old. Volunteers have more time on their hands. I helped a volunteer at a community venue yesterday. I enjoyed helping. The aim for me now is to now do an access course.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay in our hospital. It is always good to hear about our patient experiences and be able to learn from them and improve. I am glad you find good use of the Recreational facilities and that you have a variety of things to do

Hearing that the staff are attentive towards you and other patients is obviously also good news. You have acknowledged how busy the staff are and noted that there are many patients all of whom have differing needs. At times, this can have an effect on the amount of time a nurse or support worker can spend with each one. As long as personal time is readily available to everyone on our wards then that is reassuring.

Your comments about the volunteers is really useful. We do have reading groups for our patients to join; these are run by volunteers and are a really big success. It is intended that in the future, more volunteers will be integrated in our services, in order to do just what you say - spend time with patients. If you would like to become more involved in our services, please speak to the PALs team. They are always on the lookout for service users to work with us.

Thank you again for the feedback
