I fell badly a week ago, was in YDH for four days from A and E admission to discharge . I cannot fault any care that I received whether it be at medical level or emotional , rehabilitation level. A first responder was with me within 10 minutes and the ambulance within 12 minutes( I live 12 miles from Yeovil).the team got me quickly and positively to A and E,. I was seen to quickly with relevant people being contacted to make the admission onto Jasmine Ward within 3 hours. I broke bones in both arms and was completely immobilised . During the first day there was a steady stream of consultants, doctors and nurses making assessments and decisions about my care, it made me feel confident and less fearful that I was in good hands. As different things happened to me it was explained to me why it was necessary and if I need further information my questions were answered in a caring , never patronising way. I was required to need two procedural operations to take place the day following my admission. Evening staff gave me a full shower at 11.50 pm because they knew It would be a further two days after the op and they wanted me to feel comfortable, such thoughtfulness is exceptional. On the day of the operation I was given full details of what need end to be done and allowed to be involved opinion making sensible decisions. The well oiled wheels faulted faulted for a while , due to a crammed schedule the op was cancelled and then again with in two hours on again. There was a fast track system put in place for additional information to be gained , then the op took place , I was amazed at how many people were involved in ensuring my recovery. Porters were positive and jokey as I had to be moved from scans to ex rays ,it made a terrifying , painful experience manageable After the op the nursing care was exceptionally thoughtful , I was without use of both arms and all my physical needs were carried out by them . The cleaning staff, tea ladies all helped position and place things where I could reach them so I was able to eat and drink thus beginning recovery. I was given Physyo guidance from the start that sets your mind into thinking that you will be back to normal . Before I was discharged a nurse gave me yet another very welcome shower and hair wash. All these things are as important as the medical procedures as they help make you feel human and cared for. I am sat at home and reflect on the week previous , thank you all at YDH for treating me with so much care, respect , you all deserve medals.
