About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

abosolutley disgustin ! 4 visits to a and e in the week leading up to xmas, hadnt felt well for a few days, had weakness in left side ,thought there was something stuck in my throat, couldnt think or speak straight, first nurse asked my name, when I didn't answer she said to husband "whats up cant she speak" so rude!,I was treated awful, they tried to do ecg ,didn't tell me or ask me just started undoin my top and getttin my breast out,i couldn't lift my left arm, nurse got very stroppy with me,too much detail to put on here, was told I was stayin in on one visit so husband went home,at 6 in morning a doc told me I had bad sinus infection gave me pills and said I could go,i was in my pjs, with no money and still feelin ill,i was told to move to a chair as they needed the bed, once in the chair I felt very unwell, another nurse told me I had to leave the department, when I said I still felt ill she said "doc had seen me,there was nothing wrong,i had a clean bill of health and had to leave" still sat there as I was very confused, them another member of staff came over sayin "you have to leave the department"i still had a needle in my arm,he removed it and I had to wonder off to get a taxi. I wouldn't treat an animal like that let alone a human being,on the last visit that my gp sent me to with a suspected stroke I had a ct scan,it came back clear, the doc started takin pics of my throat to prove it looked fine, ive never felt so degraded in all my life, was told all bloods clear,ct scan clear, there was nothing wrong with me,he more or less said I was having some sort of mental break down. thanks to my gp I was diagnosed as having a ischaemic stroke, diagnosed by mri on 22nd December, and was told id had it a week ago,ur staff r rude, uncaring, sarcastic and many other words I wont type on here,im just thankful my gp was on the ball,i read in the Leicester mercury that ur a and e had hit its time targets on the week leading upto xmas,it seems targets r more important than duty of care! Disgusting!

Dear Reviewer, You seem to have had some bad experiences in our department and I can understand and appreciate your sense of anger and frustration. I hope you will give us a fair chance to investigate the issues you have raised. Please could you kindly provide us with some more details through our the Patient Information and Liaison Service website. http://www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/patients/patient-welfare/patient-information-and-liaison-service/ email: pils@uhl-tr.nhs.uk / or free phone 08081 788337 Once we have more details, we will formally investigate your concerns and get back to you. As a department, we take the care of our patients seriously. Yes, we aim to provide good care within the time targets stipulated by the Government. However, when there is a conflict between a patient's care and meeting a target, patient care comes first. Our clinical and management teams are committed to this and you may have read how our future Emergency Department will have more space for patients, how UHL is trying different ways of weekend working etc. These steps (and more) are aimed at providing high quality care within a timely manner to all our patients. I appreciate this doesn't necessarily help the experience you had. I just wanted to reassure you our patients are our patients, and not a number. I hope you are recovering well and I hope you will get in touch with us through PILS so we can investigate and learn from your experience. Sincerely Pro Mukherjee Consultant in Emergency Medicine
