"My hip replacement surgery experience"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had my hip replacement surgery and I must say that overall my experience was excellent.

I was under great consultancy and may I say that throughout the whole period from my initial consultancy through to being discharged following my operation I was kept fully informed of what was going on. Everything was done to ensure that I was treated as if I was a paying customer. Oh I hear you saying "but you are". Fully understand but so often we hear so many negative stories about how we are treated by our NHS.

I notice from an earlier comment that a patient was in discomfort through not being able to pass urine after his operation. I sympathise as I experienced exactly the same. However I mentioned it to the nurse that was on the ward overnight and after the running tap method failed she fitted a catheter and the discomfort disappeared.

Even the food was very good.

May I take this opportunity of thanking the whole team and all of the staff on ward 227 for the dignified and professional way in which I was treated. Having said all that I am not planning a return soon - haha!

Dear Gilbo We try as much as possible to keep our patients fully informed and involved in their care throughout their stay and it is great to hear such positive feedback from our patients. I will ensure your views are shared with the team. Many thanks for your kind comments. Mel Mountford Senior Sister Ward 227
