"My Father was admitted to a surgical ..."

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My Father was admitted to a surgical ward on June 22nd at the hospital for elective bowel surgery on June 23rd.When visiting my father the evening prior to surgery I asked to speak to the nurse looking after him. This was purely to ask if she had any idea at to what time his operation would take place the following day.The answer I was given was "Don't know,we wont have a list, could be any time"I also tried to relay some very important info to her regarding my fathers health at that moment in time which possibly would have had some bearing on surgery the next day and suggested she may like to record this info in the notes-However she did not,I later discovered.!!!

Following surgery my father was making a slow recovery but unfortunately collapsed suddenly and was transfered to Critical Care on 28th June where he was ventilated and told he had contracted C diff.

He was in Critical Care for 12 days until finally decision was made to discontinue treatment and my father passed away.

I and the rest of my family cannot praise and thank the staff on Critical Care enough, they were superb in every way, caring thoughtful, considerate to name but a few.The Doctors were marvelous and tried to explain everything to us in simple terms and took time also considering how busy they were.Thankyou!

What could be improved

Nurses at ward level, attitudes towards relatives!

Anything else?

The concessonary parking ticket was greatfully received. thankyou
