"Treatment in A & E early evening Monday 13.1.14"

About: Warwick Hospital

Monday evening I presented at A & E department following a visit to my GP with symptoms of severe stomach pains. My GP carried out NO examinations and I was told to take painkillers! Upon arrived at Warwick A & E I was triaged almost immediately. The Department was extremely busy sconsequently there was naturally a wait of about 2 hrs before I was seen by a Doctor. That Doctor was, in my unprofessional opinion, courteous, efficient and treated me with respect. The following was carried out: urine and bloods tests, X-rays, ECG, external examination. Bloods results were not conclusive so after a short wait I was seen by a GI Surgeon who again carried out more detailed examination. He too treated me with great respect and consideration. I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Initially they wanted to keep me as an in-patient but at my request, I was prescribed strong anti-biotics but told to report back should symptoms worsen. I was very surprised at the improvement at Warwick A & E Department since my last visit there not too long ago. Having dealt with the 111 routine earlier in the day and their complete lack of professionalism coupled with the disinterest of my GP, it is no wonder patients use A & E Departments as their 'first port of call'. Well done Warwick Hospital. Always room for improvement, but well done.
