"A minor matter which may have a major impact on infection control"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton)

(as the patient),

Over the last few months I have been under investigations by various teams in the Musgrove Hospital and have in general received kind, courteous and thoroughly professional care. However I would like to bring up a minor matter which may have a major impact on infection control - the habit of people licking their fingers before dealing with notes and forms. This was widespread through all departments - wards, outpatients and A&E and indeed the operating theatre! The staff involved were medical, nursing and clerical and I am sure they were unaware of what they were doing. However this issue need to be addressed as it is a means of infection spread. Waitrose provides it checkout staff with a small moistened sponge.
