"Disgusted!"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

I was referred by my doctor to the ENT at the start of Dec on the 2 week wait after a nodule found on my thyroid was suspicious & they wanted a biopsy doing. I was seen the following week in the ENT clinic by a doctor who had no idea why I was there , I was expecting a biopsy that day & he said we will arrange a ultrasound to which I told him had already been done at the LRI a week earlier! Please bear in mind at this time I am already anxious after the previous result , he then told me that he would arrange a biopsy but these are only done on a Weds & that there was only 1 date left before Xmas & New years day, they had not put any plan in place to cover these clinics for myself and others who needed biopsies & then I was told the 1 Weds they did have before Xmas the doctor who does the procedure was away on his holidays, meaning 3 weeks I would be left feeling anxious ruining my Christmas too! The hospital then realised what a error they had made and got someone else to do these ultrasound /biopsies on myself & 4 others who were in the same situation! So when I went to the appointment I had to sit listening to the person moaning behind the desk on how 5 people had been sent up & that they was not aware of this etc.. When I went into the room I was expecting to have the biopsy , therefore anxious about the needle going into my neck , to be told by the person doing this to relax (in a horrible tone) I felt like a number & not a person to him! I informed him that I had already had a biopsy if he wanted to check against it and he was very abrupt/not interested. He decided that I did not need a biopsy & that ENT would be in touch, well they would not give me an appointment until the 2nd Jan, to discuss the results, so I requested that they sent them to my GP as I did not want to wait over Xmas. When I saw my GP we looked at the previous scan sizes & the last scan sizes & if anyone would of bothered to look they would of seen that it had doubled in size in 2weeks! My doctor contacted them before Xmas to ask them to see me & today my doctor told me there was no reply for them. I returned home to find they had made me a appointment for the 23rd Jan I asked why & they said that my doctor requested this , I told them they requested this before Xmas & that I had discharged myself from the ENT at the LRI! I am now under a different hospital who straight away did a biopsy as it has now got that large it can be felt & seen, I still do not have any answers just yet which I would of by now if LRI ENT had done this in the first place! It was awful experience at this hospital which I would not wish on anyone & to go through what I did the stress & extreme anxiety I felt whilst I was there as nobody showed one bit of compassion , you are a number to them & not a person! The stress that they also caused my family too is not acceptable! I am pleased to say that the hospital that I go to now is amazing , the staff speak to you as a person & it is clean!
