Had to have a knee replacement and was on the waiting list for 2 years. When eventually got an appointment my op was cancelled (with no explanation) 3 times. I then had a 3-4 month wait until the next appointment. During all this time I was in a lot of pain and was conscious that being in my 80's I didn't have the time to wait. Eventually I went back to the doctors and asked to go to another hospital. I chose Oldham and got great treatment but would have preferred Tameside to make it easier for my relatives to visit. Also if you fail to attend an appointment at the hospital they cross you off the list - but that doesn't seem to apply when it's the other way round.
At Oldham I am about to have my other knee done and they have put that back by 2 weeks (due to no consultant being in) which is OK but having to wait 3 - 4 months every time it is cancelled when you are in pain is not acceptable.
