I would like to know why it is necessary to wait 7-10 days for the results of a chest x-ray. I was referred to my local hospital last week for an x-ray after seeing my GP about a lump I have developed over my ribcage. I appreciate that the x-ray needs to be assessed by the appropriate senior clinician but I do not understand why takes up to 10 days for the findings to reach my GP.
I am the mother of a toddler and a nine month old baby; my mother, boyfriend and mother-in-law have all had cancer. I also suffer from anxiety and I am finding this period of waiting a very stressful and nerve wracking experience.
I recently spent 18 months living in Germany, there a clinician would be on hand to interpret the results immediately - surely in the long run this less bureaucratic approach would actually reduce administration costs and save money?
