"A & E visit with headache"

About: Lister Hospital

On Monday 6th Jan my boyfriend took me to your A & E with what I can only describe as the worst headache I havev ever felt. I felt sick - was sick twice, was sensitive to light and generally felt really nasty. When I arrived at reception we walked in at 10.15 at night it was extremely busy I had to wait an hour just to see a triage nurse I told her what the problem was and she said a doctor would call - it was about half an hour and a lady doctor took me through to cubicles. I sat on the bed and explained the problem and was told she would do blood tests and CT scan. I had the blood tests but by 1 am there was no sign of me having the scan, the nurses kept checking my pulse etc. By 2am a nurse came and said the bloods would need to be done again as they had colleted this did not please as I have a fear of blood tests but the nurse who did them was very quick and reassuring. I was not very happy as by 3am we had been there nearly 5 hours without anyone asking if either me or my boyfriend would like water or coffee. I did ask about 3am if I could have a biscuit and was just told No - I was hungry and wanted to try a little something It only after my boyfriend sleeping on the floor for the best part of 7 hours that a nurse gave him a chair to sit on. Anyway I had bloods and scan and all was clear i saw a doctor who said I would be moved to CDU - I was but not until 6am.... 8 hours after arriving in the department which I understand is a very busy department and looked after well is a long time to know what is going to happen when at one point I was going to have a lumber puncture. By 9am in the morning a lovely doctor came to seem me checked me over and assessd me as having a really bad migraine I have never experience one before so was glad to know it was nothing serious and was discharged by 11 with a letter for myself and pain relief I am now feeling a lot better after having the week off work to recover and although a long wait and no chair or offer of food and drink at such a busy night great staff and credit to the hospital Please pass on my thanks for the diagnosis Emma

Thanks for your detailed account and glad to hear that everything is getting better since your visit to the Lister's emergency department. Whilst there are some aspects of your care whilst in the department that we feel could have been improved, overall your account is one of good treatment despite what seems to have been an exceptionally busy night. Thanks for your feedback, which we will make sure gets to the team asap.
