"The very best NHS facility to help me get back on..."

Although a reasonably young man ( aged 65, I felt young anyway!) I had a heavy fall and broke my femur (hip). I have had MS for around 20 years but was able to walk with a stick and drove a car (albeit on a renewable 3 year licence). I mention this fact because it meant that my recovery was not going to be as straightforward as normal .Anyone who knows about MS will be aware that it can give rise to bladder and bowel problems. After excellent surgery at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospltal, I was transported to North Walsham for convalescence. I cannot praise too highly the quality of North Walsham's nursing and support staff, the facilities and the food.Nothing was too much trouble for the nurses and everything was geared to aid my recovery. Every effort was made to preserve my dignity (especially when toilet procedures were involved. All staff were friendly-and responded well to my (admittedly quirky)sense of humour. The food was excellent and had me eagerly looking forward to mealtimes. I was extremely fortunate to have my own room and bathroom which was religiously cleaned daily. The Friends of North Walsham Hospital had donated 10 computer tablets so that patients could connect to the hospital's Wi-Fi system. A group of Friends also visited over Christmas (2013) together with carol singers and members of the Norfolk Antique and Historic Tractor Club - presents were given to all patients. Although not completely mobile (I will be here for a couple more weeks before the Occupational Therapist is confident that I will be able to manage alone at home - assisted by daily visits from back-up staff), I wanted to complete this review as soon as possible, given the recent adverse reports the NHS has suffered. No praise is high enough for this hospital Thank you everyone at North Walsham Community Hospital - I shall always be grateful to you.
