"A&E treatment"

About: Barnet Hospital

0ur friend has been taken to a&e by ambulance 3 times in the last few months due to severe ulcerated leg/foot infections - discharged on first occasion being taken by ambulance to his son ( who has ms ) in borehamwood to look after him ! - admitted on 2nd occasion due to gp recommendation situation had deteriorated to septicaemia and then transferred to royal free for more specialist care and discharged with social worker care plan implemented - last occasion brought by ambulance on 29th dec 1am sunday morning .. Left in faeces, cold without any blanket, left falling off bed pan, not enough staff able to lift him up bed ( our eldest son who has major back disability expected to do so plus try to administer his essential medication) and then discharged home ( via ambulance) with no assessment that he was able to care for himself or that his daily carers were informed or that his antibiotics were being taken .. He then fell at home and had severe bowel accidents and sickness over his bed and carpet.. He is again exhibiting symptoms of septicaemia / delirium which should have been evident yesterday morning. The ulceration is extreme and he should have been admitted for clinical expertise / intravenous antibiotics.. . An ambulance has taken him to a&e for a 4th time this morning and my husband is collecting a gp letter for your staff. There appeared to be no record of our friend's previous emergency hospital attendance / admission - therefore no clinical reference to assist in treatment. . My husband and I have been trying to support him but have children with disabilities ourselves. He is severely dehydrated !!

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am sorry to read about all the issues you have raised regarding your friends care / treatment in hospital. As I do not have any patient details I am unable to investigate and provide you with a specific response. I will however highlight your concerns with the AE Matron. As a Trust, we do take concerns/complaints seriously and would like to be given the opportunity to put things right and learn from specific incidents. If you would like to discuss your concern in more detail, please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 020 8216 4924 or email bcfpals@nhs.net
