"Signage to REI from Derriford Main Entrance Bus..."

About: Royal Eye Infirmary

The direction signage to the REI from the bus stops outside the Main Entrance to Derriford Hospital are inadequate. One heads back the direction the bus came and turns right. One is then having to cross the access for cars and ambulances to the Emergency Department. Walking on looking for the REI one comes to Devon Doctors Clinic. One is now in a cul de sac and no signage to the REI. From Devon Doctors one has to keep bearing right around the building and along an unsigned route to the REI. There are a few yellow signs on the boards bearing the words REI but these run out and one is left wander or apprehend some staff member... which I did and after helping me they commented that people find it difficult to find the place!

Good afternoon and thank you for your posting.

I am aware that some work has already been undertaken in reviewing the signage from the main entrance to the hospital to the Royal Eye Infirmary (REI) but it is clear from the experience you describe that further improvements are required. A number of changes were suggested following a walk around of the site, some of which have taken place but some of which require further action. Wherever possible, I would encourage patients attending the REI to enter the main hospital entrance on Level 6 and take the main lifts to level 3 where you can pick up the wall mounted yellow arrows leading direct to the REI reception. This means visitors to the hospital who have any form of visual impairment don't have to walk around the outside of the building.

I will refer your comments to our Facilities team for clarification and would like to thank you for your posting which I hope will be helpful in moving things forward.

Kind regards

Mary

Good morning,

Further to my e-mail yesterday I have received contact from our Facilities team who have confirmed that additional signage is in the process of being prepared. I do not have an exact time scale at the moment for completion of this work but wanted you to be aware that further signage will be forthcoming.

Kind regards

Mary
