"Ongoing Miscarriage"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital

i would like to report back a positive experience of the hospital even though our personal outcomes were tragically negative. My wife suffered an ongoing miscarriage which was quite horrible and she was bleeding heavily and she also required surgery to ensure she was fully healthy. Whilst it has been terrible for us and something we must look to move forward and get through, we wanted to ensure the hospital staff were fully praised for their kindness, care and professionalism. We came to A&E on Monday 16th december 2013 on a suspected miscarriage as my wife was having small amounts of bleeding. The doctor was kind, sensitive and brought forward the three month scan which was due to be 31st December to the next day, tuesday 17th. He answered a lot of our questions and offered as much information as possible and i felt his communication was clear and concise and he filled me with confidence through his knowledge and support. My wife was 10 weeks pregnant. By the next morning my wife started bleeding very heavily by the time we arrived for our scan at 10:50am. We were at the early pregnancy unit and were met by a wonderful Nurse. I really have to say that she seems to be the epitome of gold standard for nursing. She was kind, compassionate, professional and constantly came into the room to check up on us. We could not have got through the very horrible day much better if it were not for her. I really want to express our very high praise and thank you to her. I could tell she knew immediately we were going to suffer from a miscarriage when she saw how heavily my wife was bleeding. I am sure as nurse she has seen many things like this before but she was still able to empathise and show care and concern. She was a wonderful professional and an asset to the hospital i am sure. The consultant who attended my wife was also very professional and compassionate towards us. There were other staff who were also very professional towards us and that included another nurse and the two sonographers. Also the after care we received post surgery. I wanted to convey that this example of team work and professionalism across departments in the care of patients is something to be celebrated and acknowledged. In particular in the current climate of negative press for the NHS and such very high expectations from the general public. It is always far too easy to complain and be negative and thus forget to acknowledge the heroic efforts of the many staff who come to work every day at the hospital and do a fantastic job for which they are passionate and care for. Whilst we are saddened by our loss there is comfort that we know people like the staff at west middlesex are available and on hand to support us when we need them. Incidentally our only child was born there this time last year.
