"Walk-in A&E admission"

About: East Surrey Hospital

Having been experiencing chest pain and some breathing difficulty following a cold I went to A&E last Saturday morning. I was assessed within half an hour and with suspected pneumonia sent straight through for further assessment. I cannot think of one member of staff who was not friendly or courteous, the tests and my treatment were fully explained to me by the Doctor assigned to me and I was kept very comfortable. I went from A&E to the Acute Medical Unit where I am happy to say the same again and from there to the Tilgate Ward where I stayed for 2 nights whilst undergoing IV antibiotoic treatment. Whilst I did not require very much hands-on care myself, I cannot express enough admiration for the work the Nurses and HCAs do on the Wards and with such a positive and caring attitude. They were always clearly very busy but did not give the impression that anything was a nuisance or any trouble. They also maintained a good sense of humour which can't be easy all the time! From reading other reviews this is reflected across the Hospital. I feel very lucky to live on the doorstep of such excellent healthcare facilities. Keep up the good work, you're all amazing!

Dear Anonymous

Thank you so much for writing such kind comments.

We have been hard at work making sure that East Surrey Hospital is ready and waiting for anyone in our 535,000 catchment area when they need us most. It is such a pleasure to have been able to help when you visited us for your chest pain.

The hospital has a great culture of caring and compassion that runs through it and I am so glad that you were happy and well looked after.

If you have any further suggestions for how we could improve please let us know.

Best wishes

Dr Ben Mearns

Clinical Lead for Acute & Edlerly Medicine
