I recently visited the Urology department at the Royal Bolton hospital to investigate a problem I have had since having my little boy, who is now three and a half years old. Prior to undergoing these tests, I had been informed, eventually, that I had a first and second degree prolapse. I am still not quite sure why I had to undergo these tests, as I thought that the only way to rectify a prolapse was through surgery.
The tests were, as you can understand, very degrading, but something you must persevere with in order to put the problem right. When I went into the consulting room I was asked if I needed to empty my bladder prior to the tests. I answered that I did only to be told to use the toilet in the consulting room, the one in which the tests were being carried out. As you can imagine, I did not use the toilet as I felt very embarrassed and humiliated. It is all well and good that you have to use this toilet when the tests are being conducted, but to have to use it just for the call of nature is just unacceptable. Thus not being able to empty my bladder prior to the tests, the whole experience was very painful and humiliating.
A little respect and compassion would have gone a long way to making me feel more at ease.
