"Stitches i did not know i had"

About: New Cross Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was asked to call ward A4 at on a Friday at the start of September 2008, to see if they had a bed ready for me. They said they had and to be there for 7.00 am the same day. When I arrived, they told me to get into theatre gown and that I was first on the list for theatre. I had gone in to have wart removed on my bum. They told me they were going to put me to sleep and burn it off. At 9.15, I walked down to theatre - I was hungry and thirsty as I’d had nothing to eat or drink since the night before. They put me to sleep, the next thing I woke up back on the ward. They gave me a sandwich and cup of tea at 4.30pm. I called my husband to come and collect me, as the nurse said I could go home – though no doctor had come to see me after surgery? They said can you come back tomorrow for your prescription, as they had not done it yet. When I picked prescription up, all it contained was painkillers (got loads at home). Five days later, the pain was getting worse, so I called ward A4 and told them. They just said, call your GP. My doctor’s was closed, so called emergency and explained everything to them. They told me to go to see them straight away, and they sent a taxi to pick me up. I was only there 10 mins, when I was seen. The doctor examined me and asked if they’d told me to go back and have the stitches out. I looked shocked, I said I did not know that I had stitches. They had cut down by vagina and stitched it, and I did not know it had been done. The doctor then said that they had left me in such a mess and the stitches had broke, which is why I was in so much pain. He said that it was infected, he called New Cross hospital, and asked to be put through to ward A4. When he got through, he told them that he was sending straight up and he did not like what they had done to me. When I got back there I felt I was treated like dirt.
