"Why use the NHS you pay for when you could pay for..."

To say I am dissatisfied would be an massive understatement. I was originally referred to the NHS for wisdom tooth extraction back in March 2013 as I require general anaesthetic. Finally, at the end of August 2013 (nearly six months later) I had an appointment to be assessed before surgery, only to be told I would have to go to Swanage for the procedure. I objected as I live in Bournemouth and would have no means of transport whilst under the effects of the anaesthetic, unless of course I got a taxi or bus, which I personally feel would not be suitable and an unnecessary expense seeing as I live within 20 minutes of two large hospitals. My objections were rudely pushed to one side by the nurse who almost couldn't comprehend my reasoning, but she finally agreed for me to have the procedure carried out locally as opposed to half way across the county. A month and a half later (16th October) and I have heard nothing from the NHS. Today I finally lost patience and called Poole hospital. I was handed from department to department, none of which could deal with my enquiry, including the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery who dealt with me in August. On the third attempt at calling, I spoke with a receptionist who finally put me through to admissions. The admissions department told me that all of my files had been sent to Swanage on 30th August 2013. I explained that I was not supposed to be going to Swanage only to be given a list of reasons as to why I could only go to Swanage and that only people with medical conditions could be dealt with in Poole. So, seven and a half months later I have finally told the NHS to cancel the procedure because they are incapable of organising it correctly. I am now in a position where I cannot chew food on the right side of my mouth. I am also unable to clean my teeth correctly due to the excruciating pain caused by the slightest physical contact and after a visit to my dentist yesterday I have been told I now need two fillings in teeth on the right side of my mouth. If the procedure had been organised and carried out in a suitable timescale I do not believe I would require fillings. I also would not have experienced half a years' worth of sleepless nights and agitated days. I am now looking into getting this done privately, but of course, that will be at my own expense (as will the fillings). So all in all, a complete waste of my time and effort. Nothing has been achieved and I'm now in a worse position than I was seven months ago. Well done NHS, maybe this is why you get paid so little.
