I had an admission to a ward for four days after Xmas 2011 following a sudden blackout and fall one evening. The ambulance service was excellent. In A&E the young medics were most attentive, enthusiastic and concerned but no consultant or senior doctor that I could see. On the ward (Acute Medical?) there was one brief visit from a consultant the first morning who only said they were running tests, then left before I could speak, then nothing until the last day when a nice junior doctor asked if I wanted to go home -which I did.. The day nurses were fine if few in number, no doubt reflecting the pressure on resources, as wih the doctors, between Xmas and New Year. The night staff on one night were intimidating. The male nurse told one patient that if he tried to get out of bed again he would call security The female nurse announced "Don't speak to me, I am busy"! I found we were given sleeping pills without being told. The food was unappetising. The clinical treatment was successful for which I am grateful but I don' t recall being offered a diagnosis of what led to my admission. I was told later by my GP that it was pneumonia.
