"Experience of miscarriage in Middlesbrough"

One Saturday night i started having really bad pains & feeling under the weather. The out of hours doctor sent me to james cook university hospital in Middlesbrough. i believe i was on ward 15 where they examined me and told me i'd be in for the night.

i was then told to go and see the gynaecologist who could not come to me so i had to go to her. she then told me there was nothing wrong, and sent me home at 2 am on my own still in pain and without transport.

On the monday i went to see my local gp who offered to run some tests to see what was happening after i had had a scan at James Cook. they told me it was too early to tell, but i knew somthing was up. they gave me no advice on what to do next. my doctor offered a hormone test. but on wednesday i was rushed to hospital by my mum in labour and losing a lot of blood. The nurses that looked after me were absolutly fantastic i was on the general womans health ward, and i would like to thank them.

However due to shortage of beds i was moved to the maternity department where i was put in a side room and forgotten about. all through the night i lay awake and crying to myself as the new born, very new born baby next door cried all through the night as if it was in my own room. when i finally saw a nurse and my concerns were raised they just said get some rest and try and sleep. then i found out i was near the food prep area so there were constant loud voices and the clattering of plates and cuttlery along with the door banging and the babies cryings, although i could barely walk i checked myself out because i did not want to turn into a mess, i had a family to keep me going.

however i suffered from post-natal depression and still have a mild form thanks to those few hours in the maternity department. I was promised when moved there of counciling, and specific miscarriage help, but all i got was a leaflet advertising there services. A friend of mine went through the same thing only a few weeks after and she brought me the information she was given, a double sided a4 piece of paper with everything you needed to know about taking care after you were home, sex, periods. thats all it took.

I would like to praise nurses on the women's ward, but because of the maternity department i will think twice about having my next one there.
