"Poor communication and patient rights withheld ."

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

After discharge from ward with severe heart failure into a care home. My mother in law was re admitted to A&E with heart failure and we were told she would be admitted to a coronary care ward. She was sent to EMU to await a bed. Following day she was transferred to another ward that dealt with Gastronomic conditions and alcohol abuse. From the fist day we complained that she should be on a cardio ward and asked repeatedly for this. After almost two weeks we made a complaint to pals in the hospital that she had not even been seen by a member of the Cardio team. Eventually they sent a Doctor to see her. I bumped into somebody from the Cardio ward and told them of our plight and they came down to see mother in law as they knew her from her stay there three weeks or so earlier. They returned to say she would be moved to an appropriate ward that evening ( a Friday ) However this did not happen and My mother in law deteriorated over the weekend and passed away on the following Tuesday. So for over two and a half weeks she was denied her right to treatment by a Cardio team as laid down in the nice nhs guidelines. The team on the other ward did their best but clearly were not the right skill set to deal with her condition, as was clear when we asked question to doctors and nurses. It appeared at times we knew more about her condition than they did. We told them about fluid on her chest and were told by the doctor it was just a chest infection and they were looking to discharge her in two or three days. There were many more instances I could quote from the total of approx 12 weeks but too many at this time. In conclusion I would be very frightened to be admitted to Chesterfield Royal myself as the communication between wards Doctors nurses Physio and O/T depts is very poor and sometimes one existent.
