"Waiting for a CT scan after treatment"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

I had a mountain bike accident on Sunday 2nd June 2013. After several days I admitted myself to A&E on Tuesday 4th at 12:45pm. The A&E waiting times were 4 to 5 hours, which in itself is very poor. Once it was identified that I had a lacerated kidney, the treatment was relatively swift and effective. I was placed into a hospital ward at 21:00 on Tuesday. I was placed on bed rest until a scan could be carried out to determine the kidney was healing. I was told that a scan would be carried out on Friday 7th June, and that assuming was all ok, I would be allowed home. It is now Saturday 8th June (13:17), and I still have not been scanned. I am now fit and well, and just want to go home - it has now been 30 hours waiting for a scan... I have decided (and informed the nurses) that I will now self discharge myself from hospital. My ward has a no children (under 12) policy. My children are 7, 6 and 2 years old. They have not seen their father for a long time. The visiting times are 18:30 to 20:00 mid week. However, other patients have had visitors coming and going as they please regardless of time. I have always been a supporter of the NHS. However, this visit has made me realise just how poor the service actually is. The nurses and doctors were always friendly and polite, however, the communication between departments is apparently non existent. Regards
