"Treatment from A&E to Orthopaedic Ward"

About: Kettering General Hospital

The recent treatment received by my mother when admitted with a fracture of neck of femur was exemplary from her receival into A&E to her admission and short stay on the Orthopaedic Ward. The care and compassion shown to my mother and to the rest of the family throughout the week of her stay was wonderful, with every effort being made to aid her recovery, which sadly was not to be the case. As daughters we were kept completely informed on her condition and progress with every question being answered fully and sensitively in layman's terms which we could easily comprehend. At 90 years old a frail patient's demise would possibly be considered as inevitable but the efforts taken and resources put into the care my mother received certainly did not give this impression. There has been much talk recently in the press concerning the "end of life pathway" - from our experience I can give complete assurance that at KGH this sensitive and very difficult issue is handled completely professionally and compassionately with total involvement of the family. We were very fortunate to be present at the bedside when my mother slipped peacefully away. Thank you!
