"A rare example of care, compassion and competence."

About: The Horder Centre - St Johns Road

I've just had a total knee replacement at the Horder Centre and I have never come across an organisation that from top to bottom is so committed to its patients. I had an extreme pain episode that was witnessed by the 2 guys who cleaned up the rooms in the morning. I could see just how concerned they were for my well being and you could also see that even though I had 2 nurses and a doctor supporting me that they also wanted to pitch in. They of course made sure that the nurses had the space to get me back into bed and they quietly left to get on with other things. The next day though they were back asking me how I was and if there was anything they could do and I could see their relieve that I was better than the day before and quietly & efficiently got on with their jobs. I was very touched by their genuine concern and that clearly all the staff are committed to doing the very best they can for the patients - they are a fantastic team where all are involved from cleaners, catering and reception to the caring professionals. There is no question that a full knee replacement is not a pleasant experience and regrettably I will have to go through it again with my other knee but I feel sort of renewed to have received treatment where health care is delivered with such compassion and competence - it sort of restores a faith in human nature. The Horder Centre should be used as a beacon of what the NHS could deliver with better management. My gratitude knows no bounds in thanking all of them for how I was looked after.
