About: Heartlands Hospital

My 85 year old mother in law was admitted to Hearlands hospital as a emergency case in September 2012 suffering from possible chest problems. When admitted she was wearing three rings which were all logged on her recordes together with other personal effects when she was admitted. When we visited her on the fifth day of her stay we asked where her jewellery was and was told by the staff that her jewellery was in safe keeping and was probably in the safe. When she was discharged her 86yr old partner went to collect her and again asked where her jewellery was he was told that the jewellery was definately in the safe but he would have to come back to collect it. The awful fact about this story is that my mother in law is suffering from altzeimers and someone decided to take advantage of her situation. The sister said that she knew my mother in law had come into hospital with the jewellery as she had logged it but she could not find it.The jewellery has disapeared into thin air. After many phone calls to the ward the sister said that she was carrying out investigations but the jewellery could not be found. The hospital admitted responsibility and asked us to contact them to sort out compensation. Six months later letters have been sent to the hospital and to the Chief Executive all by registered post and all have been ignored. This situation has caused great distress to my mother in law as she took great comfort in wearing her rings. Yes it could be said that my mother in law should not have taken the jewellery into hospital but she has altzhiermers and when she was taken into hospital in an emergency the last thing her 86 year old partner was thinking of was taking her jewellery off. I am disgusted by the way she has been treated by this hospital. We will not allow my mothers feeings to be disregarded in such a way it is disgraceful.
