"Disgusting hospital"

Lived in Newham most of my life. Have used this hospital for many years, and accompanied my parents for treatment as well. I have been treated in A&E, Urology, and Orthopaedics as an out patient. I have also spent a number of mercifully short spells on wards as an in-patient. The general attitude of staff is poor. Some are ok, but overall the attitude is uncaring and ignorant. On many occasions down right rude and patronising. Waiting times for appointments are terrible. The average in most departments seems to be an hour. Many times in excess of 2 hours. I waited over 3 hours with my Father when he was awaiting cancer results from urology. When we finally got to see the doctor we were ignored for another 15 minutes whilst he tapped on his keyboard. When finally given the results we were told that the cancer was in its first stage, and one operation would probably be all that would be needed. transferred to Barts for ops. On the first appointment at Barts were informed by consultant that this was not correct. The cancer was in second stage requiring months of radiotherapy and medication. Barts had not needed to take any new tests or scan to tell this. they could tell from Newhams test results. But the rude, patronising and uncaring staff at newham could not. My Father by the way is in his 70's and mentally disabled. how caring of newham. On 2 occasions I have nearly been killed at this hospital. The first time I had been transferred from A&E to a ward late at night. In the morning the nurse giving out medication tried to give me a cup full of pills which were obviously not for me. I tried to explain to her that the notes at the end of the bed were not. they had not been changed from previous patient. She did not speak good English and was trying to force me to take them! later found at that previous occupant of bed had serious cardiac condition and was rushed from the bed I was in into resus where he died. The second near fatal mistake was when a nurse connected me to a drip line without flushing out the air first. Luckily spotted what had happened and literally tore it from my arm before she could turn it on. She realised her mistake and was visibly shaken, rushed back to nurses station and a more senior nurse came to finish the job off (rather than finishing me off!) In general: Badly run Badly staffed Badly built Badly maintained An Orwellian nightmare made reality. ultimate blame must be with the management. I hope they sleep well at night. God knows how.
