"Blood tests in St Albans"

About: Hertfordshire and the South Midlands St Albans City Hospital

(as the patient),

It seems ridiculous that the only place to get a blood test taken in St Albans is the hospital. Why can't they be done at the GP surgeries by a nurse or phlebotomist?

It may seem like an efficiency improvement for the practices but for patients it is the opposite. A separate visit to a hospital - no opportunity to make an appointment and the prospect of waiting around for an hour or so! Not a particularly positive impact on individuals or the economy in general!

Never had this problem before in other parts of the country where, in general, if the GP requests a blood test, blood can be taken at the surgery immediately.
