"Think before you rush and attend to this walk in..."

About: Birmingham Dental Hospital

Anything else?

I can honestly say I have never experienced such pain in all the years of my life. My wisdom tooth started to hurt. I went to the local dentist and he gave me antibiotics and referred me to the dental hospital. The dentist advised me that I would need to wait 12 weeks. I could not do my job properly and was totally fed up that all that was needed was this tooth to be extracted. On Friday I decided that I was not going to deal with this pain no more and called this walk in centre number, I was told to go over straight away and I would have to take a ticket and wait, at this point all you can think of is “I am going to get my life back and get this tooth out. Me and my other half went over and got to the hospital via taxi, we were greeted by the rudest receptionist I have ever met. She advised me that I could have a ticket but I would need to leave the building and come back at later. I could not believe this women was working on a desk that as to greet walk in patients in pain with their teeth. . I took no notice of her lack of customer service and I left. Finally my time had come and I turned in and provided my ticket to a young man that looked like he was not with it at all and again he did not crack a smile and showed no concern at all. I gave him my details and took a seat, now I new I would have a long day and I did not mind this as it is a walk in centre but the greeting staff are something else. The next person I was greeted by was a young trainee dental nurse , she was very pleasant . She looked at my tooth and advised she would do a xray . Next step was to go upstairs and wait for this, I have to be honest 10 minutes wait very good and this guy was very friendly. He did my xray and sent me back to the young trainee. She had called her mentor who decided to crack a joke. On my god I thought a human at last and a person who wanted to show empathy to a very uncomfortable patient. Now this is when I was told that the tooth could be removed happy days . The young girl after her mentor had advised her, told me that she would agree to remove the wisdom tooth that if all did not come out they would cut my gum and have to remove some of the tooth from the bone. I was greeted by a very unhappy dental surgeon and her nurse who did not make me feel at ease at all. The dental surgeon was very sourly faced, she gave me a fake smile and asked if she could have a look in my mouth, she injected the stuff that numbs your gum and she advised that she would now remove the tooth. She left a bit of tooth in my bone and confirmed this would not cause me a issue she left my wound open and did not stitch my gum up so i had to go to AE last night and this am found a dentist open who cleaned the wound and stitched it together . I know the walk in centre is for you desperate people like I was this Friday, but really think about it !

I am sorry you had such a disappointing experience when you visited Birmingham Dental Hospital.
