"Extracting the Truth about NHS dentists"

About: Manchester PCT

(as the patient),

Dental health is very important to me. My parents, at my age, both had all their teeth removed and dentures fitted. I still have all my teeth. Anyone remember Mr Cotterill on Woodhouse Ln? he was a great dentist who unfortunately retired about 10yrs ago... My dental treatment since then has been on a slippery slide. Since the new payment regime for dentists was introduced, where dentists get one payment for a course of treatment (which could include a dozen fillings and numerous other procedures for £24), I have noticed a sudden and disturbing trend for my Wythenshawe dentist to do ANY work. In fact, my latest visit I was told I had a few problems but instead of resolving those problems the dentist concerned said I would be best seeing a dental hygienist at the practice. The thing is, he does not operate under NHS but is private. Seriously... dentists are not doing what they are employed to do, I feel my dentist is waiting till my teeth rot, because they can't be bothered doing the work needed for the payments they receive. Anyone know of a decent dentist ( NHS or Private )? I might even have a check up by a private dentist.... then have another one by my NHS dentist and see what discrepancies appear. What authority might I approach with this? The local health authority maybe!
