"90 year old traumatised by experience at Treliske."

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

Anything else?

I am writing on behalf of my mother who is 90 and has dementia. I live 300 miles away and throughout her stay in Treliske ( Wheal agar) I found it impossible to get the ward to answer the phone. On one occasuion the main switchboard was answered eventually with an unprofessional " 'ello?". When visiting I always had to find a passing staff member prepared to swipe a card to let me into the ward as the bell was never responded to. There appeared to be very few staff on duty and I suspect the problem is systemic. On 21st Dec I drove from home to Treliske, had the same problem gaining entry to the ward; when I did I found that my mother was not there and no-one knew where she was. Eventually i was told that she has been moved to Penzance on 19th; no-one had called me. I had been calling the ward but could not get through. When I saw her at Penzance I found my mother had been traumatised by knowing that I did not know where she was and was still upset and crying. I will not allow her to enter Treliske again.
