My then 7 Week old baby boy has admitted to hospital via the GP for various issues, (skin, bowels and feeding issues), the staff where generally friendly and helpful so we cannot fault that! What I have an enormous issue is that after a full day of prodding and poking our baby, a conclusion was reached that he was intolerant to his milk and new milk was prescribed - Fair enough at the time. After persistent issues and repeated visits the GP and hospital ward for assistance, getting accused of not doing things right and this was our issue and to be persistent with the milk and time will be the cure (he was only drinking 2oz of Milk every 3 hours, constant belly pain and terrible skin). My wife and I loosing faith we sought independent advice and traced the regional allergy and paediatrics specialist at the RVI Hospital in Newcastle, she agreed to see Sebastian the very next day, rather than waiting for the Darlington’s 4 month waiting list. From a morning at the RVI seeing a team of three specialists/dieticians there where able to identify the following: Allergy to all milks, proteins, soya, and a severe allergy to eggs! They changed his milk to amino acid milk and creams immediately and the transformation was immediate, his first bottle he took 5oz - He was clearly starving! It turns out the issues he had was being made worse by what I would deem as guess work or simply lack of knowledge or skill to identify these issues! The milk he was put on he was allergic to! The creams for his skin were soya based, so was making him worse! And him not eating was down to all the reactions his body was having to what he was being fed! If following Darlington’s health care plan and dietary requirements in a couple of weeks we would be weaning our baby boy and based on what we where told to feed him he would be hospitalised and worse still have suffered an anaphylactic shock for his allergy to eggs! If this had happened I would be suing Darlington care trust as a starting point! Worse still after recieving the appropriate care from the RVI, Darlington care trust has already tried to suggest changes to his diet and milk because and I state this word for word, its expensive for NHS to provide - If this happens again I will be taking matters much further!
