"readmission admission with broken ankle"

About: Northern General Hospital

Anything else?

Admitted to NGH 22/10/13 Primary diagnosis Right ankle syndesomisis instability post ORIF with on-going treatment for HTN and a previous P.E.(Feb 2012) I was admitted to hospital after a follow up appointment at the Fracture clinic where the Orthopaedic consultant expressed concerns about the condition of the right ankle following a slip at home whilst using crutches to get about. I was sent home with a temporary 'boot' in place of the pot and instructions about how to reverse the Warfarin ready for surgery at the beginning of the following week. On returning I was admitted to Huntsman ward 6 to prepare for the surgery to re-align my right ankle. This was my 2nd visit to the Hospital for the same procedure and all seemed as well organised, efficient and hygienic as the 1st visit. The operation went as planned although my recovery to consciousness was not as pleasant as my 1st experience for some unknown reason. My overnight stay in the Huntsman 6 ward was very pleasant and the staff monitored my pain very effectively. Once again the condition of the ward and the work of the medical and domestic teams were exceptionally good. Overall the experience was very good- the friendly atmosphere on the ward and the professional and sympathetic treatment by all the medical teams aided a swift recovery that allowed me to go home after only one night on the ward. The follow-up treatment and appointments have all been very positive and helpful- enabling me to remain positive in my approach to the long recovery that came to a successful conclusion on 16th December 2013- when the pot was finally removed. I am now following the notes provided by the Physiotherapy department to rehabilitate my ankle although my impatience over the progress is frustrating- I hadn't realised how long it will take to regain full use of the ankle again! I have been impressed with the whole unfortunate experience at the NGH Sheffield and the service provided by the NHS generally. The positive, sympathetic and helpful treatment by all staff I came into contact with has greatly improved my rate of healing. Thank you to all concerened.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback on the care you have received at the Northern General Hospital over the last few months. I am pleased to hear you are now on your way to a good recovery. It is always nice for staff to hear that the care they provide is appreciated and I will pass your comments on to those involved. I hope you continue to progress with your physio.
