"A & E appalling"

About: Kettering General Hospital

Anything else?

My partner and I visited A & E earlier this year as I was suffering with a suspected miscarriage, we were greeted by a very caring receptionist, then it aIl went down hill from there. We were left for an hour in the waiting room where we witnessed the assessment nurse pick and choose her cases, I was finally seen by the nurse who made me feel I was a waste of her time. We were then again left sitting in a busy waiting room, feeling very distressed my partner requested somewhere quiet but was told there was no where. I was eventually seen by a gynaecologist, told "yeah you probably have had a miscarriage, go home, rest and see whats happens". No information was offered, counselling or support. I then returned two weeks later due to complications from the miscarriage, having spoken to NHS direct who felt that I needed emergancy care and they called the ambulance for me. Again I was made to feel I was wasting their time. I could hear the staff talking about other patients, their treatments and staff social lives. Nobody came to talk to me about my treatment, or what was happening, my partner requested that someone spoke to us several times as I was becoming more and more distressed, we were told they too busy, we then heard staff saying that they had to get me off the ward, put her somewhere else, she has been here too long, next thing I know a nurse came with a wheelchair to take me to the ward, no explanation to where I was going or why. My treatment on the ward and after care (fetal health) was faultless, they reasurred me and offered me support and care. I am aware that A & E is a very busy department, and obviously they have a high turnover of patients, but what about treating all patients with respect, dignity and care? . I have reported this to PALS, the advisor said that A & E is a department in crisis, I would like to what is going to happen next as I didn't feel the advisor knew what to do with my complaint.
