"Overall experience very good"

About: Leighton Hospital

Anything else?

I am writing to say that following an accident that resulted in a shoulder injury I have found that my overall care at the hospital has been extremely good. On arrival to A & E I was assessed and treated very quickly and treated very well by the members of staff who were on duty. Following my discharge from A & E I had an appointment at the fracture clinic to be assessed and at this appointment I was X-rayed and then given a further follow up appointment for the following week. At my second appointment at the fracture clinic there was a 30 minute delay, however having said that the clinic was extremely busy and all patients were notified twice in the half an hour that I was waiting of the delay. Following a CT scan I had a further appointment at the fracture clinic where I was advised that surgery was necessary and given a clear explanation of what that would entail. I was advised that I would be put on a trauma list for the operation for that week and was also notified that because it was a trauma list should an emergency be admitted then they would be given priority. This did in fact happen, however I was kept informed and an appointment was made for my operation to take place the next week on an orthopaedic list. I was admitted to the treatment centre for my operation and found the staff to be generally helpful and they kept me informed of what was to be expected. After surgery I experienced a lot of pain and staff in the recovery room were quick to get my pain under control and showed empathy and care. The consultant took his time to explain the procedure that I would be having done before my operation and put me at ease and then explained exactly what he had done in theatre following my operation. I was kept in hospital over night in order to get my pain under control and was found a bed on ward 9. All the staff on ward 9 were exceptionally friendly and helpful and were very attentive to my needs from the moment I was admitted, getting me comfortable in bed, offering tea and toast, doing a temperature and blood pressure check and ensuring that my pain was kept under control and even offering a cup of tea during the night when sleep did not come to me. After seeing a physiotherapist and given pain medication to take home I was discharged the following morning and I would like to personally thank all the nurses that were on duty the night of 12/11 for taking such good care of me.

Thank you for your lovely comments about the care that you received during your stay at Leighton Hospital following your recent shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. We appreciate that having a shoulder injury which requires surgery can be very painful and this can then be a difficult time for patients who may have their surgery postponed due other patients admitted to hospital as emergency admissions. Thank you for being understanding of this situation. We are glad to hear that all the staff that you had contact with cared for you well considering all aspects of your care and kept you informed at all times . Your comments will be shared with the staff in the department that you mentioned in your posting. Please accept our best wishes for your continued recovery.
