"Left a little bewildered"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Anything else?

I attended the hospital for a sigmoidoscopy and a endoscopy. The endoscopy I have had done before without too much bother; I certainly didn't remember it as a problem; unlike my recent procedures. I felt the procedures themselves were carried out medically with too much haste, not allowing the body to get used to what was happening. The endoscopy particularly was far to quick and forceful; making it very unpleasant indeed. I was sent to get dressed in the toilet afterwards and sent immediately home. I was in quite considerable pain so they sat me in in a chair in a small corridor where I was in the way, so I left for home. No recovery area, no recovery time, no drink offered, not even a sip of water. I remember reading thank you notes from patients who had been happy with their wonderful treatment. I thought I was in the wrong place. Seriously unimpressed !

Thank you very much for posting your feedback about our hospital. We would like to assure you that all comments are taken seriously and acted upon as part of our ongoing commitment to improving patient experience. We must apologise for your unpleasant experience while you were receiving treatment in our GI unit. By their very nature some GI procedures are often brief but we would not wish any of our patents to think they are hurried in any way. It is difficult to comment further on your own experience without your specific details and reviewing your medical notes. Our usual recovery area is unavailable at present because it is being rebuilt and extended in a way that will make the recovery experience better for patients in future. Due to the building works, our GI staff are working with limited space and under difficult circumstances but they have tried to make allowances for the temporary loss of the recovery area as best they can. Our GI patients are not routinely offered drinks but staff will always provide drinks if requested. We would very much welcome the opportunity to investigate what happened during your visit. If you wished to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on free phone 0800 073 0510 we would happily look into the issues you have raised.
