"I recently gave birth in MK hospital, ..."

About: Milton Keynes Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I recently gave birth in MK hospital, the antenatal care I received was first class, I always saw the same midwife. She was outstanding, in not only the ante but also the postnatal care. I had a difficult bith, but the moment I arrived on labour ward, we had 1:1 care and the m/w were first rate, I felt that the care they gave me really added to the experience and actually made me cry!

The Anaesthist was so caring, and empathised with me, and even held my hand, the consultant and jr drs were fantastic, as was the OPA. Postnatally the ward staff were again outstanding, The night staff were so good, and I felt awful having to call them to help me lift my daughter, but they came promptly despite having to manage a really busy ward. I honestly can't priase the level of care, professionalism and efficiency of the maternity department. Thank you so much.

What could be improved

Only small things

The only thing I could say is that the night staff could do with more hands, they are stretched. They manage a really busy ward with a varied casemix the staffing levels should be reviewed to ensure the skill mix as well as numbers are adequate.

I also think that there should be some facilities for the dad's to stay. My husband and I felt very emotional when he had to leave. I think that having family rooms will not only help the mum's but also the staff at night. I had a c-section and my husband could have stayed and helped look after our daughter which could have elevated some of the pressure and routine workload for the m/w's.
