"Turned a very pleasant experience."

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

Anything else?

Having taken my friend who is 90 years old to your hospital turned out to be a very pleasant experience for some one who had grave misgivings about going there in the first place. We did not encounter anyone at all who did give us such a pleasant experience. They were friendly efficient and tactful and treated my friend with the utmost consideration. One volunteer who transported us all round the hospital on the buggy he was so pleasant and helpful. So was everyone we came in contact with. It allayed my friends fears entirely. My only concern and disgust is with the taxis who operate the ambulance service to and from the hospital. Is it because they don't receive many gratuities or what. They may come to the door to announce their arrival but quickly jump into the car behind their driving wheel leaving the elderly to open the doors and manage to get inside. Not good enough courtesy and helpfulness goes a long, long way in my book. Some doors are extremely difficult for the elderly and infirm to operate especially the one which slide open. We do appreciate that this service exists but training could improve their manner. Again many thanks for the wonderful way in which this hospital and staff co-operate with their patients on all levels. Depts visited were accident and emergency, x ray(Scan) and ambulatory

Dear Margaret Thank you for sharing your story and for detailing all the things that mattered to you and your friend during your recent visit to North Tyneside Hospital. It is so lovely to know that the care you witnessed from all staff was respectful, dignified and centred around individual needs. Getting care right for older people really matters to us. We want to do all we can to make sure that our visitors feel welcomed into our hospitals, confident that those they care about will be well looked after. Thank you also for your acknowledgement of the excellent work that our volunteers do. We are very lucky to have such wonderful people who give their time to provide our patients with an excellent experience. I know how much this will mean to them all. I will take a copy down to them all to read on Monday, I know they will be thrilled! I was disappointed to learn about your frustration with the taxi service who provided your transportation on the day. It is important for us to hear this feedback and gives us the opportunity to share your comments with those who responsible for providing this service. Thank you. I do hope you have a lovely Christmas. Best Wishes Annie
