"disappointing maternity services"

About: York Hospital

Anything else?

My experiences of maternity services at York are very mixed. Some evidently excellent & caring staff, then some less well trained staff, who were unfortunately rude, patronising and dismissive. My husband having to mop up my vomit with towels which were then left in my room over night being a real low point. I ended up with an emergency section. Doctors were fab, can't fault this aspect of my care. Post natal ward was very poor. So noisy, apparently no control over visiting hours, (eg. the lady next to me was allowed to have six visitors at her bedside during none visiting hours unchallenged by staff), and a brisk and thus unhelpful breastfeeding expert. Very poor communication. The food was also beyond terrible... cremated omelette and odd under cooked square cubes of veg, hardly appealing... how hard is it to cook an omelette? This was all in the summer of 2011. I'm very concerned about the type of care I will receive when I have my next baby. It really does feel like what you get is a lottery. However, I remain optimistic that someone reads and acts on feedback and that things have changed or that I hit the jackpot and get one of those caring, friendly supportive midwives...
