"Royal Hallamshire - Urology Deptartment"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I was in pain and discomfort from about 8pm untill 1am. The doctor couldn't see me due to a lack of staff. He was a young junior doctor and tried to put my catheter in, but failed. He said he didn't have the correct catheter equipment due my enlarged prostate. I was sent to the ward.

A young malasian nurse did the trick. The following day the consultant said I should have an operation on my enlarged "benign" prostate, he said I needed keyhole surgery. After being in hospital for a long time I felt very jaded and didn't want the operation straight away, so came home. I think the maximum amount of sleep I received was 3 hours per night due to all the discomfort and my memory wasn't great either.

I agreed with him that I would come back at a later date, so I was fitted with a catheter with a bag and sent on my way. The operation will be perfomed soon at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Once it was agreed that I would be discharged and I could go home all I was waiting for was my tablets. I was waiting for them from approximately 12 noon untill 8 pm in the evening. It was a saturday and I unstand that it is a big hospital and they must have been stretched and just couldn't get round to me. I would have liked to go home but I was ok to wait, just a small price to pay for the excellent care.

I am now at home and improving all the time.
