"People with anxiety we can't even show them how to shop online"

Speaking to a member of staff today about OTs on Adult Mental Health wards at Highbury hospital. Their comments are below:

OT is really important on the wards and we can't run activities that keep people going. I get that we will be helpful in the community and helping people in their own homes, but you still need OTs on the ward.

Guys that would engage with anybody on a ward would still have a bacon sarnie and learn how to cook it.

There's a problem with internet access, bills and budgeting can't be done; you could look at your bank statements/bills online instead of waiting a couple of weeks for people to get leave, then staff have to escort them off the grounds. People with anxiety we can't even show them how to shop online.

Along with the Head of Involvement (Paul Sanguinazzi), I am responsible for the Trusts two Involvement Centres, and our Volunteering and Befriending Service. I help to report all of the feedback we receive as a Trust to the Board.

Thanks for sharing this comment on behalf of the member of staff. The Trust often receives high praise for it's OT services, particularly in the way they support recovery.

All comments gathered at the Listening Event are being shared with the senior management team who oversee Highbury services, and I'm sure they or a responsible manager will respond in more detail shortly.
