"Day surgery to remove Stent and Kidney Stone"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Yesterday I was admitted to the POCU for Surgery to remove one of my bilateral kidney stones. I had to be at the Hospital buy 07: 00 am but my procedure did not take place until after 12: 00 noon. Had not had any thing to eat since 6pm the previous evening and nothing to drink since 06: 30 am on the day.

I found the the staff in the section were not very good at keeping patients informed about what was going on and it was only due to wife asking at the nurses station and from the nurse who came to prep me for the operation that we got any information about what was going on. I found this lake of information to be very unsatisfactory and upsetting. I have previously been in for day surgery but this was dealt with in the Sunderland day care centre and found the the level of service I received there to be much better.

I would therefore like to know why it was necessary to get me so early and also why the staff could not be more informative about what was going on.

I would say the level of care that I received when I was taken down for my operation and the post op recovery was exemplary and I have no complaints about this
