I went to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for a pre op. After the tests were undertaken I was called by a sister who would explain what would happen on the day of my operation under general anesthetic.
I was asked if I would be happy to have local anesthetic because my ECG reading had been shown to a doctor who stated I should not have general anesthetic because my heart stopped every third beat. I was to be immediately referred to a cardiologist who would like fit a pace maker.
To hear that news on my own was rather a blow. I would have liked the sister to ask if I was with anyone and for them to accompany me during the consultation with the sister.
"I was told I needed a pace maker fitted whilst I was on my own"
