About: Broomfield Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

A week's stay in B16. An application for a patient position on the new Trust Board left with the Day Sister for onward transmission. So far no reply. It is disturbing when staff ignore patients basic needs for pans and comodes. I had to get them off telephone calls to friends, and interrupt their chats to provide a.m. distress calls that were being ignored. Nursing is a 24hr calling and empty beds at weekend so patients can go home should not be encouraged. If they are well enough to go home they don't need the hospital bed.

What could be improved

Having spent some considerable time in various hospitals over the past 20 years it was a pleasure to hear that Matrons were now back on the wards. I saw a matron fleetingly twice! Handovers were poorly conducted with different people being attributed to wrong notes, but then patient corrected. The old saying you pay peanuts, etc. Why pay the agencies for nurses when you could up the wages anyway?
