"The option to choose which hospital ..."

About: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton)

(as the patient),

What I liked

The option to choose which hospital I was to be treated at.

What could be improved

I have been referred to the Knee Pain Non Complex (Cerner)-Orthopaedics-Musgrove-T&S-RBA clinic by my GP. The Choose and Book system has, for several days already, displayed the message "There are currently no appointments available, please try again later. There is no indication of how long I may need to wait before I am able to make an appointment. I would also be interested in knowing how long I am likely to have to wait for an appointment. This lack of information coupled with an indefinite wait is most unhelpful. So much for choose and book.

Although the Choose and Book Helpline has offered to pass my details directly to Musgrove Park this may not achieve a lot because I will be out of the country a good deal in coming months. I may be better off waiting until I have a choice. But how long will that be please?

Laurence

Thanks for your comment, and I am sorry that the system has not worked well for you on this occasion. Musgrove Park Hospital works closely with the Primary Care Trust to ensure that patients are referred to the most appropriate setting to deal with their condition. The pathway for patients with your condition is to be treated initially in a community clinic which is a jointly provided service with Musgrove Park and the PCT. The community based clinics help to ensure that only those requiring, or likely to require, surgery need to attend the hospital This reduces waiting times for all patients and ensures that patients do not have to travel to the hospital unnecessarily. However, if you would prefer to be seen at Musgrove first rather than the community clinic, please discuss this with your doctor and ask the Choose and Book helpdesk to pass your details onto the hospital. We will then contact you to agree a time for you to come in. We make all efforts to agree an appointment date and time that fits around your travel commitments.
