"I have had the misfortune to use the maternity..."

About: Kingston Hospital

Anything else?

I have had the misfortune to use the maternity service at Kingston twice now. The first time in 2010 my post-natal experience was appalling. When I went back in 2012 I was hoping things would have improved but although they were a little better it was still very much the same story. Staff were totally uninterested, standing at the nurses' station talking to each other. My husband was made to feel like a nuisance when he went to ask for help. I was terrified of him leaving at night - and I am normally a confident, independent person. After the first night and being told by the midwife that I couldn't have my baby in the bed with me (I couldn't lean out of the bed after my section to get him from his cot so the only way to feed him without having to buzz for help - which never came - was to have him in the bed) and I was just making a fuss, I couldn't bear it and was overjoyed to leave and move to the Combe Wing. I am contemplating having another baby but will only do it if I can avoid having to spend any time on the maternity ward at Kingston. That is how awful my experiences there have been.
